As it happens: Pita leaves parliament chamber

5.10pm: The attempt to renominate Pita for prime minister failed in voting, by the joint sitting of MPs and senators, on a motion against the renomination, by 395 votes to 312 and eight abstentions.

5.05pm: House Speaker Wan Muhamad opens voting on a motion against the renomination of Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat as prime minister.

2.43pm: Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat leaves the parliament chamber, saying he accepts the Constitutional Court’s order for him to stop performing his MP duties, pending the Court’s decision on his ownership of iTV shares.He said “We will meet again. Since the general election on May, Thai society has changed and Thailand will not return to that old place. The people may have found victory in the elections, but we  are still only halfway and we will fight together until we reach the end.” He also posted what he said on Facebook.

1.07pm: Move Forward MPs seen, in live TV shot of the House chamber, gathered around their party leader Pita Limjaroenrat, reportedly discussing the Constitutional Court’s order for Pita to stop performing his duties as an MP, while Thai Sang Thai MP Takorn Tantasith speaks about Pita’s nomination as PM.

12.13pm : Pita remains in the parliament chamber, despite the Constitutional Court’s order for him to stop performing his duties as an MP immediately, after accepting his iTV share ownership case. It is because the Court’s order did not affect his candidacy.

12.30pm: Move Forward Party releases an urgent announcement saying its leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s candidacy for the premiership is not affected by the Constitutional Court’s order for him to cease his duties as an MP.

Breaking News : The Constitutional Court, this morning, agreed to accept for consideration Pita Limjaroenrat’s share ownership in iTV media company and, at the same time, ordered him to stop performing his duties as an MP as of today.

10.58am: United Thai Nation MP Akanat Promphan asks the House speaker to rule on whether Pita’s candidacy can be renominated.

10.30am: The Parliament cannot proceed as planned because MPs from the United Thai Nation and Democrat parties take turns to voice their opposition to the renomination of Pita, while those from Move Forward raise their hands and stand to protest against the opposition. They say the nomination can proceed.

10.13am: Akaradej stand with the permission of Wan Muhamad, saying that the re-nomination of Pita violates the regulations, as Pita failed to secure the position last week.

10.10am: House speaker orders closing of endorsement for Pita’s nomination and announced that 304 MPs endorsed the nomination and that Pita is the sole candidate for the position of PM.

9.55am : Move Forward MPs Rangsiman Rome and Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn take turns to protest Akaradej, saying the Parliament is in the process of nominating Pita as the premier.

9.46am: Democrat MP  Akaradej Wongpitakroj protests saying the re-nomination of Pita to the premiership violates the Parliament’s regulation as it could be tantamount to submitting a repeat motion in a single parliamentary session.

9.45am: Wan Muhamad asks MPs to endorse Pita’s nomination.

9.40am: Pheu Thai MP Sutin Klungsang nominates Move Forward Party Pita Limjaroenrat for prime minister.

9.32am: House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha opens the joint sitting of parliament.
