The Do Good Foundation has temporarily suspended Panadda Wongphudee from her role as chairwoman and halted donations through all channels pending an investigation into the construction of its buildings in the Rangsit area.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the foundation’s legal team said the investigation would focus on construction-related financial records and the conduct of people involved in the project.
The foundation said its social assistance activities would continue, subject to the availability of resources and personnel.
It has appointed vice-chairwoman Pornphan Phumarin as acting chairwoman during the investigation.
According to the statement, the construction project includes an office building, a storage facility for donated goods and coffins, parking areas and accommodation for staff.
The facilities are intended to support rescue teams and volunteers during disasters, store donated equipment and supplies, and provide temporary shelter for victims of domestic and sexual violence.
The statement said a person close to Panadda had volunteered to oversee the entire construction project. Panadda, in her capacity as chairwoman, approved construction payments based on information provided by the project coordinator, with the money transferred directly to contractors.
The actual construction budget remains under review as the project has not been fully completed, although some facilities are already in use.
The foundation said the project coordinator had retained all related documents and that it had not yet been able to contact the coordinator to obtain all the records needed for verification.
The foundation is investigating the project’s finances and payments amid questions about their transparency. It said it would take legal action if clear evidence of wrongdoing emerged.
Panadda’s suspension and the halt on donations will remain in place until the investigation into the construction finances and the conduct of those involved is concluded.
