Chiang Mai’s air quality slightly better today, as the air quality index (AQI) improved from the world’s worst for the past two days, to third most polluted city, according to the Air Pollution Mitigation Centre.

Air pollution in the north today is rated from moderate to health-threatening, with PM2.5 in Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai,Nan, Mae Hong Son, Phayao, Lamphun, Tak and Lampang reaching the Red level.

The highest level of PM2.5 was detected in Wiang Pang Kham sub-district in the Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai, at 210.2µg/m³.

Chiang Mai’s air quality index (AQI) reading today is 180, better than Lahore in Pakistan and Delhi in India, with 250 and 217 AQI readings respectively.

Today’s PM2.5 readings in each region of Thailand are:

-43.4µg/m³-209.3µg/m³ in the northern region

–22.0µg/m³-95.1µg/m³ in the north-eastern region

-24.1µg/m³-61.0 in the central and western regions

-13.7µg/m³-31.1µg/m³ in the eastern region

-13.2 µg/m³-26µg/m³ in the southern region

-16.6 µg/m³-31.9µg/m³ in Bangkok

Excessive PM2.5 was also detected in several other provinces, although the readings are below the Red level. They are Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Phitsanuloke, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Sing Buri, Lop Buri, Ang Thong, Kanchanaburi, Bueng Kan, Loei, Udon Thani, Nakhon Phanom, Nong Bua Lamphu, Sakhon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Roi-et, Amnat Charoen, Yasothon, Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket and Nakhon Ratchasima.
