12 Wild Boars attend pre-ordination ceremony

Eleven of the Wild Boars soccer team and their coach will this afternoon have their heads shaven in a ceremony at a local temple in Mae Sai District of Chiang Rai in preparation for a mass ordination tomorrow

Earlier this morning they joined a ceremony to wrap clothes around Phra That Doi Wao pagoda. A large number of villagers also took part in the ceremony. The only member of the football team who was missing is Adul Sam-on, who is a Muslim.

The soccer team had their heads shaven in a ceremony presided over by monastic chiefs of all districts and also attended by their families.

Tomorrow, an ordination ceremony will be held at Wat Phra That Doi Tung for them. The 11 young Wild Boars will be ordained as novices and are scheduled to leave the novicehood on Aug 3.

Their coach, Ekapol, as an adult, will be ordained as a monk. He has yet to decide when to leave the monkhood.

The ordination of the 12 Wild Boars is dedicated to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Sirikit of the late King Bhumibol Adulydej, and ex-Navy seal member Lt Commander Saman Gunan who died during the operation to rescue them from Tham Luang cave.
