Bangkok’s Laksi district office has ordered the closure of a construction workers’ camp, belonging to Italthai Development Corporation on Chaengwattana road, until further notice, after 196 workers were found to be infected with COVID-19.
The infected workers are among 300 screened by health officials at the site and at the hospital, said Mr. Sombat Kanoktipwan, director of Laksi district office, adding that there are still over 1,300 left to be screened.
All the remaining workers in the camp have been prohibited from leaving the site, as active screening is to be undertaken. The workers were also told to disinfect the site and their lodgings and to dispose garbage and waste water properly.
The district office has also arranged for transport services, to take people living in close proximity to the camp to the Department of Disease Control and the Thai-Japanese sports stadium in Din Daeng, for COVID-19 testing.
With the cooperation of Italthai, the district office will set up a screening station at the site, which is for the construction of Chulalongkorn Hospital in Soi Chaengwattana 5, to undertake active screening of the remaining construction workers.
About 800 Thai and migrant workers are to be tested this weekend.
Meanwhile, Bangkok City Hall Spokesman Pongsakorn Kwanmuang said today that the spread of clusters of infections, in the Bon Kai slum in Pathumwan district, the Ban Khing community near a shopping mall in Bang Khae district, the Wat Sommanas community in Pom Prab district and Sampeng in Samphant hawong district, appear to be slowing, but infections in Din Daeng and Dusit districts continue to rise.
