Army Commander-in-Chief General Apirat Kongsompong has ordered troops of the First Army Region to clean roads and footpaths throughout Bangkok every night until March 31st.
The big clean-up, using water mixed with BKC (Benzalkonium Chloride), or Sanisol, a disinfectant capable of killing coronavirus and other pathogens, is part of the army’s efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Bangkok, as most new infections are now occurring in the capital. The clean-up starts at 1am and lasts until 5am every night.
The army said that BKC was recommended by the Singaporean government, which has used the disinfectant to clean public places, but said it is not suitable for human use.
The First Division is responsible for cleaning in Thawee Wattana, Taling Chan, Bang Sue Ratchathevi, Pok Prabe Army, Phra Nakhon, Dusit, Samphanthawong, Phya Thai, Huay Khwang and Din Daeng districts.
The Second Cavalry Division is responsible for Sathorn, Bang Rak, Pathumwan, Bang Na, Phra Khanong, Suan Luang, Wattana, Khlong Toei, Yan Nawa, Bang Khor Laem and Khlong San districts. The rest of capital will be the responsibility of the First Development Division.
Meanwhile, the Chachoengsao provincial administration has closed, until March 31st, pubs, bars and air-conditioned restaurants, which provide music or other entertainment shows and can accommodate more than 50 people, as well as cinemas, fitness clubs, swimming pools, boxing camps, cramming schools, yoga and tuition classes.
Violators of the restrictions are liable to one-month imprisonment and/or a fine of 10,000 baht.
All drivers of public transport vehicles are now required to wear face masks or face a one-month prison term and/or a 10,000 baht fine.
