Thailand today recorded two new COVID-19 cases, among Thais who have returned from abroad and are in state quarantine.
According to the CCSA, the two new cases had returned from the United States, a 42-year old man and a 62-year old woman. Both arrived in Thailand on July 31st, on the same flight as a passenger who was earlier found to be infected.
Both tested positive on August 4th and are asymptomatic.
Cumulative infections in Thailand, to date, are 3,330, with 3,148 recoveries and 124 others still in hospital. The death toll remains 58.
Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Thira Woratanarat, of the Faculty of Medical Science at Chulalongkorn University, said in his Facebook post on Thursday that three new world records will be set tomorrow. Specifically, global COVID-12 infections will surpass the 19 million mark and infections in the US and India will surpass five million and two million respectively.
He said coronavirus is spreading “like mad” with one million new infections every four days.
He reminded Thai people of the need to keep their guard up, saying that the fact that there has not been a single case of locally acquired infection for over two months does not mean that Thailand is safe from the disease.
Dr. Thira recommended that Thais, who develop flu-like symptoms, ask for a COVID-19 test when they visit a doctor.
