The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported 92 new cases today (Sunday), including a ten-year old schoolboy who returned home to Khon Kaen after a recent visit to Pathum Thani province for Chinese New Year celebrations.
The new cases include 86 locally-acquired infections and 6 returnees from abroad in state quarantine. Of the local cases, 38 were found during pro-active screening and the rest were already under observation or in hospitals.
Samut Sakhon province recorded the most new infections, with 60 cases, followed by Pathum Thani’s 17, Ang Thong province’s 4, Bangkok’s 3 and 1 case each in Chon Buri and Khon Kaen.
Khon Kaen provincial health officials said that the 10-year old boy and his infected father had gone to Pathum Thani to visit relatives and the boy is believed to have contracted the virus from his father.
More than 300 students and teachers at the infected boy’s school have been tested, with results still pending.
Cumulative infections, since early last year, are 25,415, with 24,285 recoveries. 1,045 others are still being treated in hospitals. The death toll remains 83.
