Daily COVID-19 infections in Thailand increased slightly to 1,458 today (Wednesday), from 1,443 yesterday, with two more fatalities due to severe lung infections, said Dr. Apisamai Srirangsan, assistant spokesperson for the CCSA.
Third-wave infections, which began on April 1st, have climbed to 17,780, which include 12,879 among those under observation and treatment and 4,752 cases found during active screening. Most of the new infections are concentrated in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri, Prachuap Khiri Khan, and Nonthaburi provinces.
The death toll, since early last year, is 110, including 16 since April 1st. Currently, 13,797 patients are being treated in general hospitals and 3,365 are in field hospitals.
Cumulative infections, since early last year, are 46,643, with 29,371 recoveries.
The two fatalities reported today include a 56-year old obese woman with diabetes, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease. She was diagnosed with COVID-19 on April 17th after developing a fever and a cough. She was admitted to hospital on the same day and X-rays showed her lungs were severely infected. She died two days later of lung failure.
The other victim, a 32-year old man, also suffered from a severe lung infection and he died on Monday, three days after being admitted to a hospital.
Dr. Apisamai said that anyone who suspects that they are at high risk of becoming infected should seek a test at a hospital and keep themselves in isolation while waiting for the results.
If the results are positive, they must contact the hospital where they took the test, to make arrangements for admission.
Meanwhile, the government announced, on its Thai Khu Fah webpage, that anyone wanting to get vaccinated can register via the Mor Prom application from May 1st.
They can choose the time, date, and hospital for inoculation. After the registration, they will receive a text message the day prior to their first injection.
