Thailand’s proposed APEC BCG Awards will be announced at the APEC Leaders’ Meeting in November in Peru, the current APEC chair, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministry stated that during the recent Senior Officials' Meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Lima, Thailand provided an update on the APEC BCG Award, which was initiated during Thailand's chairmanship in 2022.
The Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economic model, introduced by Thailand, was recognized by APEC leaders in Bangkok as a sustainable economic model.
This year marks the second time this prestigious award will be given to individuals from APEC member economies who have successfully implemented replicable BCG economy approaches. The awards will cover three categories—women, men, and youth.
As part of the implementation of the Bangkok Goals on BCG, the Thai delegation, led by Salinee Phonprapai, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs, updated the meeting on the progress of 381 APEC initiatives, an increase of 100 compared to the previous year.
The winners of this year’s awards will be announced during the APEC Leaders’ Meeting on November 15-16 in Lima, Peru.
Within Thailand, the BCG model has been applied in various areas, such as the Hygienic Kitchen of the World, Healthy People, Happy Destination, and Harmonious and Sustainable Society projects.
For instance, health-related projects are focused on ensuring health security among the aging population. By 2040, one-third of Thailand’s population will be senior citizens.
