A total of 78 anti-government protesters, including some leaders, have been arrested and charged by Thailand’s police since October 13th, and all but 8 have been released on bail, said Pol Lt-Gen Charuvat Waisaya today (Friday).
Of the 78, the assistant national police chief said that 46, including 4 under the age of 20, have been charged with violating the Emergency Decree, 21 with illegal assembly of more than ten people, 3 are charged with harassing Her Majesty the Queen, 10 with sedition and 1 charged with resisting police.
Even though the state of emergency was lifted by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Thursday, he explained that those already charged with violating it will still face trial and people who were affected by the protests can lodge complaints with the police.
Among the 8 protesters, still being held on remand, are human rights lawyer Anont Nampa, who is in Chiang Mai provincial prison, and the rest are in Bangkok Remand Prison, includingMs. Panasaya Sitthijirawattanakul, Parit Chivarak, Chatupat Boonpatthararaksa, alias Pai Daodin and Panupong Jardnok, alias Mike Rayong.
Meanwhile, Hua Mark police have been investigating a scuffle, which occurred at Ramkhamhaeng University yesterday, in which some anti-government protesters were slightly injured and some audio equipment, used by the protesters, wasdamaged.
Meanwhile, Dr. Rienthong Nanna, Director of Mongkut Wattana Hospital and a staunch royalist, told Matichon Online that the affray at the university was a minor incident, which occurred because the yellow-shirt royalists reacted when they felt offended by the protesting students.
He warned that the royalists’ reactions would escalate if the protesters continue to offend the Monarchy.
