Over 84% of those who have died from COVID-19 in Thailand were not vaccinated, or did not have an official record of vaccination, and 7.2% had received just one vaccine dose, according to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
As Thailand logged 132 more deaths today, lower than the daily figures reported last month, CCSA Spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin attributed the positive trend to the mass inoculation of the country’s population.
13,637 people died between April 1st and September 9th this year, with 95.82% of them dying in hospital. The eldest was 109 years old and the youngest was just 12 days. The median age is 67 and 12,239 had underlying diseases, with most being diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, kidney disease and obesity. 21 were pregnant women.
Thailand recorded 12,583 new COVID-19 cases today (Monday), 16,304 new recoveries and 132 more deaths. 132,113 people are still being treated in hospitals, including 4,096 severe cases with 835 on ventilators.
Of today’s new infections, 12,409 are locally acquired cases and 163 are among prisoners. 11 are among foreign arrivals in state quarantine.
Dr. Taweesin said that the overall fatality rate is declining, though it still remains high in Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi and Samut Sakhon provinces.
Of the fatalities reported in the past 24 hours, 63 are men and the rest women. They include 129 Thai nationals, two from Myanmar and one Japanese.
23 fatalities were in Bangkok, 19 in Samut Prakan, 12 each in Nakhon Pathom and Samut Sakhon, 6 each in Nonthaburi, Surin and Ayutthaya, 4 in Kamphaeng Phet, 3 each in Pathum Thani, Tak, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chachoengsao and Chanthaburi, 2 two each in Sakhon Nakhon, Buri Ram, Ubon Ratchathani, Chiang Rai, Phitsanuloke, Ranong, Narathiwat and Songkhla and 1 each in Si Sa Ket, Nakhon Sawan, Yala, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Nayok, Suphan Buri, Samut Songkhram, Chon Buri, Trat, Lop Buri and Sing Buri.
