Thailand reported one new COVID-19 infection again today and one more fatality, with 14 new recoveries.
CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin said today that all the 40 problematic cases, from the southern province of Yala, have tested negative for coronavirus, after analysis by the Medical Science Department in Bangkok. The results resolve the conflicting results produced by the testing facility in Yala and the medical science centre in Songkhla province.
Details of the most recent test will be explained in a news conference scheduled this afternoon at the Ministry of Public Health.
Today’s new infection is a 27-year old Thai woman, a resident of the northeastern province of Buri Ram, who returned from Russia on May 3rd. All the 70 passengers on her flight were sent to a hotel in Samut Prakan for state managed quarantine, after their arrival at Suvarnabhumi international airport on May 3rd.
The woman was later sent to a hospital for treatment after her temperature rose to 38.3oC.
The most recent fatality was a 69-year old Australian, who was working as the manager of a hotel in the southern coastal province of Phang-nga. On March 25th, he fell sick with fatigue and a cough and was sent for medical checks. On the following day, he was sent to a hospital in Phuket, but his condition worsened and he was put on a respirator.
An X-ray showed a severe lung infection and he tested positive for COVID-19 prior to his demise.
According to the CCSA, a total of 12,847 Thais, returning from 27 countries, have entered state and local quarantine. Of these, 3,921 have returned home and 85 were tested positive for the virus while in quarantine.
There are still about 29,000 Thais still stranded in Malaysia, but they are being cared for by the Thai missions there.
