Investigations by medical specialists into the deaths of 103 people, who died after they had been inoculated with COVID-19 vaccines, have concluded that 42 were not linked to the vaccines, with the rest still pending further investigation, said Dr. Chawetsan Namwat, director for emergency health hazards and diseases of the Disease Control Department, on Thursday.
Of the 42 deaths investigated so far, he said that 20 were associated with other diseases, including 10 cases of heart and coronary artery disease, 3 cases of brain haemorrhage, 1 case of purulent meningitis, 1 case of pulmonary embolism (lung arterial blood clot), 1 case of intraabdominal aneurysm (stomach bleeding), 1 case of immune thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (blood disease) and 3 cases linked to other diseases.
Dr. Chawetsan added, however, that the medical investigators have assured that all the vaccines administered in Thailand are safe and members of the public, particularly the elderly and those afflicted with any of seven underlying diseases, should not be overly concerned about their safety.
He noted that doctors have not advised against drinking coffee before vaccinations, saying that drinking coffee is alright if one drinks it regularly and feels normal.
As of June 21st, 1,945 people had suffered undesirable side effects from vaccines which require hospitalization, accounting for 24.3 in each 100,000 doses administered.
Of the 945 cases of severe side effects, medical specialists have investigated 327 so far and concluded that only 66 cases were directly linked to the vaccines used, with the remaining cases still pending results. All have been treated and there were no fatalities among them.
