The investigation into the recent poisoning and robbery of two joggers in Nonthaburi Public Park has led the police and Food and Drug Administration officials to factory, found to be illegally producing prescription veterinary medicines, in Nakhon Pathom province. They also identified a website offering sales of various anti-biotics and other drugs, including X-Lazine, which is a controlled substance used to sedate large animals.
The X-Lazine is similar to the sedative which was injected into the drinking water bottles of the two joggers, when they left them unattended. One of the victims had to be rushed to intensive care for treatment.
Pol Lt-Gen Permpoom Chidchob, assistant national police chief, told a news conference on Friday that the authorities also searched a house, in the Kamphaeng Saen district of Nakhon Pathom yesterday, and found a large quantity of oral and injectable drugs for animals.
They subsequently raided an unlicensed manufacturing facility in Nakhon Pathom.
FDA deputy secretary-general Supatra Boonserm warned those raising animals against using unlicensed medications, saying that doing so, without advice from veterinarians, could seriously harm their livestock.
