Thailand’s Disease Control Department has proposed its vaccination plan for this year, which covers unvaccinated children over 12 and children from 5-12, as well as fourth shots for medical personnel and those suffering from chronic diseases.
Unvaccinated children over 12 can just walk in for vaccination, at hospitals designated by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) in case of Bangkok and the communicable disease committees in other provinces, said Spokesman for the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin.
People who are not fully inoculated can also walk in for vaccination. Children between 5 and 12 can get vaccinated voluntarily and with consent from their parents.
Medical personnel and people suffering from chronic diseases, who want to receive a fourth dose, will get either AstraZeneca, Pfizer or Moderna as booster shot if they were inoculated with two Sinovac and one AstraZeneca doses. Those who were given two Sinovac and one Pfizer dose may receive either a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine as their fourth. The third dose must have been given at least three months from the fourth dose.
Dr. Taweesin estimated that about 9.3 million people are expected to receive their first, second, third or fourth shots this month.
He disclosed that the CCSA also approved the procurement of 50,000 courses of Paxlovid medication, to be administered to COVID-19 patients who suffer mild, moderate or severe symptoms. He maintains, however, that the main COVID-19 treatment is still Favipiravir anti-viral tablets.
