The Chinese Embassy in Bangkok has strongly protested against comments made by a member of the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRC), which it claims to be “heinous and shameful” lies about China’s alleged mistreatment of its Muslim population.
The Chinese Embassy’s protest note was in response to an NHRC member’s statement to the Thai media on January 29th, accusing China of mistreating Muslims, while claiming that a number of them, who were repatriated to China, have been killed.
On its webpage, the embassy said that China respects and protects human rights and that Chinese people are free to practice their religious faiths, insisting that these rights are incorporated in the Chinese Constitution and in the policies of the Chinese government.
As such, it claimed, the accusation that the Chinese government has banned the Qur'an and Arabic languages is disconnected from reality.
It did however, claim that, over a decade ago, some Chinese people were persuaded by anti-government elements to sneak into Thailand to commit offenses.
It maintains that these people will be will be protected under China’s law and returned to Chinese society to purse their lives peacefully.
The Chinese Embassy did not specify who these Chinese nationals are, but they are understood to be a group of Uyghurs detained at the Immigration Bureau in Bangkok for about 10 years, pending repatriation to China.
