China has pledged full cooperation with the Thai government’s investigation into the collapse of a 30-story building under construction in Chatuchak district last week.
It also called on the Chinese company, in the joint venture contracted to undertake the construction, to cooperate fully with Thai investigators, to determine the cause of the collapse, according to a statement on the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok’s Facebook page.
The embassy emphasised that it has instructed Chinese firms operating outside China to comply with local laws and regulations.
The death toll from the pancake collapse of the State Auditor Office (SAO) building has risen to 15, with about 70 people still unaccounted for.
The Thai government has launched an investigation into the tragedy, which occurred after a strong earthquake hit Myanmar, sending tremors into Thailand, particularly Bangkok.
While acknowledging that the earthquake contributed to the incident, questions remain as to why other buildings under construction in the same area remain intact.
The embassy has extended its condolences to the families and relatives of the dead and injured and China has sent rescue teams to assist in the ongoing operations in Thailand.
