In the coastal province of Samut Sakhon, the centre of the second wave of the pandemic in mid-December, Governor Veerasak Vichitsangsri said yesterday that he had received reports from the private sector and individuals that a number of illegal migrant workers had arrived in the province, allegedly with the help of human trafficking gangs.
Admitting that he is very concerned about these reports, he said he has scheduled a meeting today with officials and business operators to discuss the problem and how to solve it.
He also said that health officials will conduct saliva tests on about 15,000 people living in close proximity to a cold storage unit, which was ordered to close for 14 days yesterday after many employees, most of them migrant workers, were found to be infected.
