The Thai foreign minister has highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation and the need for political will to address global challenges in his speech at the Summit of the Future at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Maris Sangiampongsa also emphasised key issues such as sustainable development through the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, the fight against illicit drugs and cybercrime, and the necessity for reforms in the UN to better reflect the interests of developing countries and empower youth.
Speaking under the theme “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,” Maris outlined Thailand’s vision for a collaborative global future.
He reiterated the need for political will to confront pressing global challenges, advocating for an inclusive approach to ensure the protection and prosperity of all individuals.
Thailand has supported an inclusive process for the conclusion of the Pact for the Future so that it yields concrete outcomes for the mutual benefit of the international community.
“Thailand has contributed inputs for the Pact with the hope that it could effectively address global challenges and has attached importance to participation from all stakeholders.”
The Summit’s primary goal is to accelerate actions toward achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, reaffirming the importance of multilateralism and the UN's pivotal role in addressing contemporary and future challenges.
The Thai minister’s remarks also underline Thailand’s commitment to fostering collaboration among nations to build a better tomorrow for all.
