COVID-19 infections in Thailand are still on the rise, as 245 new cases are recorded today (Sunday), said CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin today.
He added that the screening to be continued in high-risk areas.
Today’s new infections include 224 locally-acquired infections and 21 arrivals from abroad in state quarantine. 882 patients have recovered today. Cumulative infections, to date, are 10,298, with 6,428 recoveries and 67 deaths.
Since December 15th, 5,866 infections have been recorded, with the most in Samut Sakhon, Chon Buri, Rayong, Bangkok and Samut Prakan.
Dr. Taweesin stressed the need for field hospitals, especially in these provinces, to separate the asymptomatic cases from the public, as he pleaded for understanding and sympathy from people who live near to where the field hospitals are located.
He said field hospitals will be set up in the provinces where there are many asymptomatic cases, to ease the load on regular hospitals.
Regarding the new infections at a beer garden in the Si Racha district of Chon Buri, Dr. Taweesin said that 32 people have, so far, been confirmed to be infected and it is feared that the virus has already spread to nine others. 29 of 32 people, who were in close contact with the infected, have been traced and, of these, 13 were found to be infected as well.
