The Thai embassy in Warsaw, Poland, arranged the safe evacuation of 99 Thai nationals from Ukraine yesterday (Sunday) and is making arrangements to evacuate those who are still in the country, according to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.
The ministry said that 60 Thais were evacuated from Lviv to Warsaw and another 39 were evacuated from Ukraine’s port city of Odessa, on the Black Sea, to the Romanian capital of Bucharest on the same day.
Thai embassy officials in Bucharest will be taking care of them until they are repatriated to Thailand.
42 Thais remain Lviv and 10 more are going to join them, said the ministry, adding that all are expected to travel to Poland later today.
Lviv has been used as the coordination centre for the evacuation of Thais from Ukraine.
Other Thais, scattered across different cities in Ukraine, are safe, according to the ministry, and Thai embassy officials will try to get them out of Ukraine at the first opportunity.
Flights will be arranged to fly all of them back to Thailand, said the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Russia’s forces began an attack on its neighbour Ukraine on February 24, following months of tension as diplomatic efforts failed to defuse the conflict. At least 352 Ukrainian civilians have been killed.
