Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Thailand reached 971 projects in the first nine months of this year, a 26% year-on-year increase, with a combined value of more than Bt271 billion.
Kittiwat Patchimnan, director general of the Commerce Ministry’s Department of Business Development, told reporters this week that the approved projects covered engineering and technical services, industrial parts manufacturing, goods distribution, machinery services, energy and electric vehicles.
Kittiwat, who also serves as secretary to a ministerial committee on foreign businesses, said 494 of the approved FDI projects were supported by investment promotion programmes for high-tech industries under the Board of Investment (BOI).
These projects included those in digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), electric vehicles, clean energy, agriculture and food processing. Most were located in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), with a combined investment value of more than Bt102 billion.
According to Kittiwat, the five largest sources of FDI in Thailand during the first nine months of this year were China, the United States, Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong.
