The daily COVID-19 death toll jumped to 125 today (Saturday), up from yesterday’s 119, a record high single day high for this year, according to the COVID-19 Information Centre.
Daily new infections in the past 24 hours are 18,892 while 22,220 people have recovered. Cumulative infections this are 1,788,749, but 1,595,484 people have recovered, leaving 221,452 still undergoing treatment, including 2,062 cases of lung infection.
The death toll since January 1st, 2022 is 5,056, including 125 cases today, representing 0.28% of those infected.
Associate Professor Dr. Nitipat Jiarakul, head of the respiratory disease and tuberculosis division of the Faculty of Medicine at Mahidol University, said in his Facebook post today that COVID-19 fatalities and severe cases during the Songkran holidays remain stable, with only a slight variance.
He warned, however, that Thailand may see a change in severe cases and deaths next week, which could be “big or small.”
Senior health officials have predicted new infections may surge to between 50,000-100,000 cases a day after the Songkran break, with a potential surge in severe cases if Thai people drop their guard.
