Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) is aiming to administer about 10 million doses of AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccines in July in provinces which have high infection rates and to complete full inoculation of at least 70% of the population of Phuket, which is set to be the first province to receive fully vaccinated tourists without quarantine from July 1st.
CCSA Spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin told the media today (Friday) that the CCSA also plans to acquire an additional 50 million doses of vaccine, including 28 million doses of Sinovac and 22 million doses of other makes, for next year, bringing the total of vaccine doses to be procured to 150 million.
He said that, under the revised allocation plan for July, Bangkok, which has had the highest daily infection rate for several consecutive weeks, will be allocated about 2.5 million doses.
Other Dark Red zone provinces, such as Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan, will each be allotted 200,000 doses, while Phuket is to also receive 200,000 doses for the month of July.
For 23 provinces, which are regarded as “maximum controlled” areas, or areas which are in urgent need of preparations to cope with the post-pandemic situation, or border provinces, each will receive an average of 100,000 doses of vaccines. These provinces are Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Tak, Nong Khai, Sa Kaeo, Ranong, Narathiwat, Yala, Pattani, Songkhla, Trang, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phetchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Ayutthaya, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Buriram, Surat Thani (including Samui and Pha-ngan islands), Phang-nga and Krabi.
For the rest of the country, each province will be allocated an average of 70,000 doses. About a million doses will be kept in reserve.
Dr. Taweesin made clear, however, that the allocation of vaccines will depend on deliveries from the producers, which can change.
Of the 105.5 million doses already procured for this year, of which several million have already been received, they are divided into 61 million doses of AstraZeneca, 19.5 million doses of Sinovac, 20 million doses of Pfizer and 5 million doses of Johnson & Johnson.
