There will no longer be free, state provided quarantine for international arrivals in Thailand by air and sea from July 1st, according to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) today (Friday), citing high costs.
This means Thai and non-Thai citizens flying to Thailand will have to bear the costs of quarantine, at Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) hotels, the number of which will be increased, said CCSA Spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin.
“We’ve found that, over the past year, there has been an increase in the use of state quarantine. Many Thais went abroad and then stay in state quarantine when they came back, many times,” he said.
Some forms of state quarantine will, however, remain, under the designation of Organizational Quarantine (OQ), for vulnerable groups, such as Thai labourers returning from abroad, other Thais who cannot pay for their quarantine and government officials. State quarantine will also remain for arrivals by land.
For labourers, the Labour Ministry will determine the location and timeframe and will coordinate with the private sector.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha declared that Thailand will fully reopen to foreign visitors, without quarantine requirements, in four months.
