CCSA expresses concern that Thai health system may be overwhelmed as daily new COVID-19 infections rise to 4,528

New COVID-19 infections in Thailand reached 4,528 today (Sunday), including 1,902 cases in prisons, and 24 more deaths.

CCSA Assistant Spokesperson Dr. Apisamai Srirangsan expressed her concern over the increasing trend of new infections in Bangkok, its suburbs and in some provinces, saying that they may overwhelm the capability of the health system, unless the rising curve is flattened. She urged everyone to help in reducing the number of new infections.

Cumulative infections, since April 1^st, have soared to 125,444, including 19,008 being treated in general hospitals and 29,043 in field hospitals. 1,209 are severe cases, including 389 who are on ventilators.

11 men and 13 women died of COVID-19 related causes in the past 24 hours. 14 are in Bangkok, 3 in Nonthaburi, 2 in Chon Buri and 1 each in Chiang Mai, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Suphan Buri and Nakhon Si Thammarat. Underlying diseases are still the main mortality risk.

Bangkok and Phetchaburi province top today’s list of infections with 754. Samut Prakan logged 264 cases, 139 in Nonthaburi, 90 in Chon Buri, 73 in Pathum Thani, 65 in Narathiwat, 62 in Chachoengsao, 58 in Samut Sakhon and 44 cases in Trang.

Cumulative infections in the top ten provinces, since April 1^st, are:
