Thailand’s daily Covid-19 death toll hit record high today (Wednesday) at 34, while logging in 1,983 new cases, 1,226 of which are severe, including 401 who are on ventilators, according to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
Of the 34 fatalities today, 13 were in Samut Prakan, 10 in Bangkok, 2 each in Nakhon Pathom and Pathum Thani and 1 each in Suphan Buri, Samut Songkhram, Samut Sakhon, Phetchabun, Chonburi, Nakhon Nayok and Sa Kaeo. 18 were women and were 16 men, aged from 33 to 93.
Most of the fatalities had comorbidities, including high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, obesity, heart disease, chronic lung infection, liver disease or high cholesterol.
Assistant Spokesperson Dr. Apisamai Srirangsan said today that the COVID-19 infection graph for Bangkok and its peripherals continues to rise, while, in the rest of the country, the graph has levelled out and may start to fall.
Bangkok logged 976 new cases today, the highest in terms of new infections. The other nine provinces are:
• Nonthaburi, 226
• Samut Prakan, 110
• Chonburi, 57
• Surat Thani, 53
• Ayutthaya, 38
• Samut Sakhon, 36
• Chanthaburi, 32
• Pathum Thani, 29
• Pattani, 28
In Bangkok, the five districts with the most new infections are Wattana, Huai Khwang, Klong Toey, Pathumwan and Din Daeng.
Cumulative infections for the third wave of Covid-19 cases, since April 1st, are 60,044, of whom 319 have died.
Dr. Apisamai said that the severe cases are still cause for serious concern, as more of them are having to be put on ventilators, adding that those who are infected and are admitted to hospitals sooner stand a greater chance of survival.
Altogether 29,378 people are still being treated in hospitals, including 20,159 in general hospitals and 9,219 in field hospitals.
