Bangkok plans to inoculate 70% of its inhabitants, at the rate of 50,000 people per day. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will set up 14 locations across the city, outside hospitals, starting June 1st.
Bangkok Governor, Aswin Kwanmuang, said that the BMA has joined forces with the Thai Chamber of Commerce to organise the campaign, in which those aged over 60 and those with congenital diseases will be inoculated first.
The governor said everyone in Bangkok, including the vulnerable, are covered by the plan. They might, however, consider allocating vaccines to other groups, if the inoculation plan does not meet its goal.
Most of the 14 locations are shopping centres, community malls and privately owned buildings, which each have the capacity to inoculate 1,000-2,000 people per day.
Permanent Secretary of the BMA, Silapasuay Raweesangsoon, said that there are also currently 114 hospitals in Bangkok ready to inoculate people.
The 14 non-hospital locations are:
- Northern Bangkok – The Thai Cement Building and Central Lad Phrao Shopping Mall.
- Southern Bangkok – Sam Yan Mitr Town, Pathumwan district, Tanya Park, Suan Luang district, True Digital Park, Phra Khanong district and Asiatique.
- Eastern Bangkok – The Mall Bangkapi, Robinson Ladkrabang Shopping Mall and Lotus Minburi.
- Northern Krung Thon Buri (the west side of the Chao Phraya River) – Central Pinklao and ICONSIAM.
- Southern Krung Thon Buri – The PTT gas station on Rama 2 in Bang Khun Thian district, the Mall Bangkhae and Big C in Bang Bon district.
