Former Thammasat University Rector Charnvit Kasetsiri joined the “Through the Sky” protest march at Kasetsart intersection this morning (Sunday), to offer moral support to the protesters and support their demand for the release of anti-establishment protest leaders and others being held on remand.
According to the iLaw Facebook page, Charnvit was quoted to have said that he is concerned about all those held in detention and that they should all be granted bail, so they can fight their cases in a court of law.
Led by Chatupat Boonpatthararaksa, alias Pai Daodin, the so-called “Through the Sky” protesters started their long march from the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima several days go. They arrived at the Kasetsart intersection yesterday and took a rest before resuming their march today, toward their destination at the Democracy Monument.
The protest march by the “Through the Sky” group has, so far, been peaceful.
Meanwhile, Mr. Noraseth Nanongtoom, a lawyer from the Centre for Human Right Lawyers, told the media late Saturday night, at Pahonyothin police station, that more than 46 protesters, mostly WeVo guards, were arrested by police on Saturday.
He said that most of those detained have not been charged and he has no idea what offences they had allegedly committed.
He disclosed that he had led 27 protesters, arrested by the police but freed by their colleagues from two prison trucks, to report to police at Pahonyothin police station, to demonstrate that they have no intention of trying to avoid facing additional charges of escaping from police arrest.
Noraseth also said that WeVo chief guard Piyarat Chongthep, alias Toto, and 18 others are being detained inside the Region 1 Border Patrol Police headquarters in Pathum Thani province.
Piyarat and three other guards were booked by police at the car park of the Major Ratchayothin shopping mall Saturday night.
Piyarat and 17 others, being held at the BPP barracks in Pathum Thani province, have now been charged with breaching the Emergency Decree and the Communicable Diseases Act and with being members of a criminal association.
An informed police source claimed that Piyarat and his guards met at the car park of the shopping mall to plan the distribution of sling shots, steel pellets and smoke bombs, to trigger violence during the protest last night.
