Attempts by human rights lawyers to seek bail for five WeVo guards, detained at Bangkok Remand Prison for allegedly trying to free two Ratsadon core leaders from a prison truck, have been rejected by the Criminal Court.
A Twitter message from the Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR) said Monday that lawyers at the TLHR had sought bail for the five, namely Natthanon Chaimahabut, Thawat Sookprasert, Sakchai Tangchitsadudee, Somkid Torsoi and Chaloey Aekkasak, at 20,000 baht each, plus tagging with electronic monitoring bracelets (EM).
The court, however, rejected the bail applications on the grounds that there is no reason to change the order for their detention pending the conclusion of the police investigation.
On October 30th last year, the five guards were accused of attempting to snatch Parit “Penguin” Chiwarak and Panupong Jardnok, alias Mike Rayong, from a prison van, as they were being taken from Bangkok Remand Prison to Prachachuen police station to be questioned by the police.
The five were charged with assembling in a group of more than ten people to assault authorities and using force in an attempt to seize two detainees from the custody of the authorities.
