Health officials are closely monitoring a suspected COVID-19 cluster, after seven members of a futsal team in Samut Sakhon were founded to be infected, as Thailand today records 72 new COVID-19 cases.
CCSA assistant spokesperson Dr. Apisamai Srirangsan told the media today (Thursday) that two of the futsal players, who tested positive for the virus, are Bangkok residents.
Health officials have already traced about 50 people who were in close contact with the infected footballers and they are now awaiting test results, she said, adding that the two infected players are students in Bangkok, but went to play with the team in Samut Sakhon.
Dr. Apisamai stressed that the CCSA cautions schools in Bangkok, which are close to high-risk areas, to remind their students to wear face masks all the time and to maintain strictsocial distancing.
Of the 72 new COVID-19 cases today, 63 are locally-acquired infections and 9 are arrivals in state quarantine from Indonesia, the US, the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Oman, Russia and Bangladesh.
Cumulative infections, since early last year, are 25,764, with 24,734 recoveries. 947 others are still being treated in hospitals and the death toll stands at 83.
Cumulative infections since December 15th are 21,527, with 20,557 recoveries and 23 deaths.
