Thailand recorded four new COVID-19 cases today, all arrivals from abroad and in state quarantine.
CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin told a news briefing today (Monday) that three of the four cases had recently returned from the United States and the other from Taiwan.
Of those from the US, one is a 44-year old asymptomatic Thai woman, who arrived on July 20th and tested positive for COVID-19 five days later. Another two, both students, aged 25 and 21, arrived on July 25th. The male student had a fever and sore throat, while the female also had a fever and anosmia. Both were found to be infected and sent for treatment.
The fourth case is a 30-year old man, who returned from Taiwan on July 21st and tested positive for the virus four days later.
Cumulative infections in Thailand, to date, are 3,295, with 3,111 recoveries and 58 deaths. 126 others are still in hospital.
Globally, Thailand is ranked 106th as far as total infections are concerned. The US remains at the top of the list, with 4.37 million. Brazil ranks second, with 2.41 million and India ranks third, with 1.43 million cases.
Dr. Taweesin reminded Thai people not to expect Thailand to maintain zero locally acquired infections, citing the case of Vietnam, which recorded zero infections for several days, prior to July 25th, when one new case was reported, followed by three more cases on July 26th.
