Six new COVID-19 cases have been recorded today (Thursday), all among Thais in state quarantine after returning from abroad.
The new infections bring the cumulative total in the country to 3,179, with 3,059 recoveries and 58 deaths. 62 patients are still being treated in hospital.
CCSA assistant spokesperson Dr. Panprapha Yongtrakul said today that four of the six new infections, aged 21, 37, 43 and 62, arrived in Bangkok on June 24th, on a flight from Indonesia carrying 172 passengers. They immediately entered state quarantine at facilities in Chon Buri province.
All asymptomatic, they tested positive for COVID-19 on June 29th.
The fifth case is a 20-year old student among 106 passengers returning from South Africa on June 28th. Despite having a cough for about a week, the test upon arrival at Suvarnabhumi international airport cleared him of any infection, but the second test, conducted two days later, was positive for COVID-19.
The sixth case, a 21-year old freelancer working in Sudan, arrived in Thailand on June 24th and entered state quarantine. Although asymptomatic, he was confirmed to be infected with coronavirus on June 29th.
More than 200,000 new infections were recorded worldwide today, sending the global count to date to about 10.8 million. The United States recorded around 52,000 new cases, the highest number in a single day. Thailand is placed 96th on the world infection ranking.
Dr. Panprapha reminded everyone of the need to wear face masks when they are out, maintain social distancing and wash their hands frequently when they travel out of their home provinces during the forthcoming long weekend.
