Thailand recorded 7 more COVID-19 cases today (Monday), all of them among Thais returning from abroad isolated in state quarantine facilities. No additional fatalities.
CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin said that 4 of the new cases are returnees from the United Arab Emirates.
The group, most of whom are aged 39-43, worked as masseuses. The group also included an 11-year old student. They arrived in Thailand on June 2nd and immediately entered state quarantine in Bangkok. All are asymptomatic but tested positive for coronavirus three days after arrival.
Two other new cases are Thai students, both 28 years old, arriving from Pakistan on June 6th and, while asymptomatic, tested positive for the virus.
The seventh case is a 37-year old Thai woman, who returned from the United States on June 1st and entered state quarantine in Bangkok. Also asymptomatic, she tested positive on June 4th.
Cumulative infections among Thais returning from abroad are now 182. These include 34 cases from Kuwait, 12 from Saudi Arabia, 65 from Indonesia, 14 from Pakistan and 9 from Qatar. The rest are illegal immigrants, being held at the immigration detention centre in Sadao district of the southern province of Songkhla.
All the infected Thai returnees are in state quarantine in Bangkok, Songkhla, Satun, Pattani, Yala, Chon Buri, Narathiwat, Krabi and Samut Prakan provinces.
Thailand’s cumulative infections, to date, are 3,119, with 2,973 recoveries and 88 still in hospital. The death toll remains 58.
Abroad, infections in the United States passed the two million mark today, with 2,007,449 accumulated cases, followed by Brazil’s 691,962 and Russia’s 467,673. Total global infection, since the outbreak began, are 7,086,740.
Due to the improving situation in Thailand, manifested in the low rate of new infections and public cooperation with health advisories, Dr. Taweesin said that the daily news briefing will be reduced to five weekdays, with situation updates during weekends to be provided via the Thai Khu Fah Facebook page.
Dr. Taweesin will meet the media on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while Dr. Panprapha Yongtrakul will conduct the briefing on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
