Thailand’s 51 new COVID-19 infections today were only half the number reported yesterday. 119 new recoveries were also reported.
Total infections have reached to 2,220, whereas recoveries have increased to 793, with 1,907 others still in hospital. The official death toll has increased by 3 to 26.
The new infections today are the fewest since March 20th, when 50 cases were reported. 27 of the new cases are in Bangkok, four each in Phuket and Nonthaburi, three in Chon Buri and two each in Samut Prakan, Yala, Surat Thani and Phatthalung.
Provinces still remaining free from the virus include Kamphaeng Phet, Chainat, Trat, Kanchanaburi, Phang-nga, Phichit, Ranong, Satun, Sing Buri and Ang Thong.
CCSA spokesman, Dr. Thaveesilp Wissanuyothin, said the new infections divide into three groups, namely 25 linked with those already infected, 19, including 13 medical personnel, who are not linked to any previously infected cases, but relate to hospital patients and arrivals from abroad. Seven cases are under further investigation after testing positive for the virus.
Although most cases have been reported in Bangkok, with a total of 1,051 cases, Dr. Thaveesilp said that new infections in the city are reducing, but they are increasing upcountry.
Since January, data indicates that household clusters represent 35% of the infections in Bangkok and 49% in the provinces.
Of the three new fatalities reported today, one was a 28-year old office worker in Bangkok, whose wife was also infected. The second was a 51-year old man and the third, a 59-year old woman.
Altogether 22 medical professionals have been infected.
