Before they held a discussion on the charter, seven opposition parties signed a letter of ratification on Saturday to confirm their determination to amend the current Constitution.
Future Forward party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit said that the current Constitution is the main obstacle to progress in the country, keeping it from moving forward by prolonging the power of the military junta and undermining the parliamentary check-and-balance mechanism.
To end the prolonged political conflict, to allow the country to develop and to set a new social order with the participation of the people, the Future Forward party leader said that the current charter must first be rewritten.
Pheu Thai party leader Sompong Amornvivat, meanwhile, said the Constitution is unjust and was designed with the intention of destroying those who disagree with the government, while all the independent organizations are being used as tools of the Government to the Government’s advantage.
Prachachart party leader Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said that the current charter does not belong to the people, but to the power that can be manifested by the selective enforcement of the law and the neutralization of the parliamentary system as a check and balance on the executive branch.
