The opposition has promised a hard time for Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha during the Opposition debate in the House tomorrow over his incomplete recital of the oath before His Majesty the King on July 16th.
The seven-party opposition has lined up 15 speakers to grill the Prime Minister, with Pheu Thai party leader Mr. Sompong Amornvivat, Future Forward secretary-general Piyabutr Saengkanokkul and Seri Ruam Thai leader Pol Gen Seripisut Temiyavet spearheading the attack.
The Prime Minister hinted today that, while he will attend as much of the debate as possible, he will not be in parliament throughout because he has several other engagements. The debate is due to end at midnight.
Other speakers include Pheu Thai secretary-general Anudit Nakhontap and his fellow party members Cholnan Srikaew, Suthin Klangsaeng, Ms. Jiraporn Sinthuprai. Chirayu Huangsap, Mrs. Sirikanya Tansakul and Karom Polpornklang of Future Forward party will speak, as will Wan Muhamad Noor Matha of the Prachachart party and Nikhom Boonwiset of Palang Puangchon Chao Thai.
Opposition chief whip Mr. Suthin Klangsaeng said that all the speakers will try to keep their contributions to the point. The debate can last until midnight or end sooner, depending on whether the Prime Minister’s responses are clear enough, he added.
He also warned government MPs not to resort to tactics to demand the debate be held behind closed doors, cut the debate short or to ask for headcounts to confirm a quorum.
Pheu Thai secretary-general Anudit, meanwhile, said he hoped the Prime Minister will attend the debate to answer the opposition MPs’ questions himself.
He specifically pointed out that the last part of the oath, which was omitted by the Prime Minister, contained important wording and wondered if the Prime Minister’s failure to recite those words was driven by hidden agenda.
Meanwhile, Seripisut promised he will be polite and focus on two issues, namely the incomplete oath and the lack of details about the national budget for the 2020 fiscal year, and will not raise the scandal surrounding Deputy Agriculture Minister Thammanat Prompao.
The Prime Minister, meantime, said that he did not feel excited about the debate tomorrow, noting that it was beyond the stage to be excited.
