Samut Prakan provincial police are pondering attempted murder charges against five youths, aged 12 to 16, for allegedly throwing stones from a Bangkok motorway pedestrian overpass onto vehicles below.
All the youngsters were arrested by Bangphli Noi police the day after they allegedly threw a 4.89 kg stone onto a passing pickup truck on the night of August 10th.
The stone shattered the windscreen of the vehicle and injured the driver’s hand. The driver managed to pull over safely onto the shoulder of the motorway. The driver saw a group of boys on the overpass and drove to Bangphli police station to lodge a complaint, which eventually led to the arrests.
Parents of the two boys aged 12 and 13 were yesterday summoned to Bangphli Noi police station to be questioned by the police.
It was reported that the school director and teacher of the group also met with the police yesterday for information about the incident.
Pol Lt-Col Saksorn Wannaprasert, the deputy superintendent of Bangphli Noi police station, said that, before the incident, the boys went to a restaurant on the night of August 10th to console one of the group who had fought with his girlfriend.
They allegedly said drank beer at the restaurant before deciding to throw stones at passing cars on the motorway in order to help the boy vent his frustration.
Police said the injured victim did not press any charges against the boys after their parents agreed to compensate him for the damage to his vehicle.
