House Speaker Chuan Leekpai has ordered a tightening of security at the new parliament building ahead of the first Senate meeting at the facility today (Monday).
While admitting that he had no details about the explosions in Bangkok on Friday, he appealed to members of the public to be the “eyes and ears” of officials and to alert them if they came across any suspicious objects.
Meanwhile, in Hua Hin district of Thailand’s southern province of Prachuap Khiri Khan, police on Sunday cordoned off the railway station with steel barriers as an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team examined three suspicious objects before destroying them with powerful water jets.
Two more suspicious items and a motorcycle, with Pattani license plates, were later found close to the railway station where four explosions occurred on August 11th and 12th, 2016 in which two people were killed and 26 others injured.
EOD officials used a sniffer dog to examine the motorcycle, but later decided to disable it with a powerful jet of water. There was no explosion. The two suspicious objects were found to be an empty parcels.
