Over 72% of people surveyed by Super Poll said they gained nothing from the debate in parliament on the government’s policy statement, while 78.6% admitted they did not believe political parties would fulfil their election pledges.
Poll results show 27.2% of the respondents said they have benefitted from the debate, whereas 79.2% said they didn’t find any MP impressive on the first day of the debate.
However, 20.8% of those surveyed said they were impressed with the performances of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, Seri Ruam Thai party leader Seripisut Temiyavet, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, Future Forward secretary-general Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, Future Forward spokeswoman Pannika Wanich, Pheu Thai MP Cholnan Srikaew and Palang Pracharat MP Pareena Kraikupt.
Out of a possible of 10, the Opposition scored 6.46, Mr. Chuan Leekpai and Mr. Pornpetch Wikchitcholchai, who chaired the parliament meeting, scored 5.84 while the government scored 5.11, according to the poll result.
Super Poll director Noppadol Kannikar said today (Saturday) that the public’s inclination is to give a chance for both the government and the Opposition to address the pressing problems of the people, although most of them do not believe that the parties will fulfil their election pledges.
He suggested the Prime Minister and the opposition leader, Mr. Sompong Amornvivat of the Pheu Thai party, join hands in solving the problems faced by the people, such as drought, unemployment, the high cost of living and the price slump in farm produce.
Noppadol said that nobody knows for sure what it will be like in the next 20 years as set in the government’s 20-year national strategy, but most people want to know what will be the outcomes of the government’s policies and whether the money in their pockets will be increased or not.
He said the government, the opposition and the Senate must join forces to reach out to the people and to help ease their hardships.
