A Polish family of four, who got lost in the mountainous forest on Pha-ngan Island in Thailand’s southern province of Surat Thani, was found by a Thai search and rescue team Monday night.
A staffer at an unnamed hotel on the popular resort island, known for its “Full Moon Party”, received a distress call at about 5.30pm from one of their guests, Tomasz Andrzej Sliwinski, a Polish national, saying that he, his wife and two children were lost somewhere on the mountain in Tambon Ban.
The tourist said that it was getting dark and he was afraid that his family might not be safe in the jungle.
Hotel staff then alerted the district police who quickly assembled a search team of more than 50 people, including forest officials, officials of Tarnsadet Koh Pha-ngan Park, village heads and local officials.
They finally found the family sitting together on a boulder waiting for help at about 11.20pm and took them back to their hotel.
Mr. Sliwinski told reporters Monday night that his family visited Pha-ngan Island because they heard of its natural beauty and charm. As it was getting dark, he said they made the descent to get back to hotel, but could not find their way out of the jungle and decided to call the hotel staff for help.
Mr. Sliwinski thanked the hotel staff and the search team and said he was very impressed by their help.
