The Future Forward party says it will open a new chapter in local politics by not just fielding candidates in local elections, but also by helping local people design policies that respond to their specific needs.
Party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit announced today that the party will create another political phenomenon after its stunning success in the March 24th general election.
The party came third in the election, after the Pheu Thai and Palang Pracharat parties, beating old and well-established parties such as the Democrat, Bhumjaithai, Chart Thai Pattana and Chart Pattana parties.
With local elections, for seats in the Provincial Administration Organizations and Tambon Administration Organizations, due in the next few months, Thanathorn said that this would be the first time that the party would venture into local politics, adding that the party would employ teams, comprised of experts in different fields, to work with locals in designing policies that will fit with the needs of the localities, such as water management, for localities which frequently face water shortages, and garbage management.
The party’s executive committee will decide how many candidates the party will field and in which locations, said Thanathorn. He claimed that the party would present the local people with tailor-made policies and projects that will transform their lives for the better.
“This is democracy, which is real which can be felt, and will help improve the quality of life of our children in the localities,” said a confident Thanathorn, adding that local politics in Thailand has been dominated by some families for a long time and this should change.
“The father is a national politician, with the mother being a PAO mayor, the son a TAO mayor and the nephew the mayor. We have been living with this patronage system for a long time. It is about time we give it a big shake with our quality policies,” said Thanathorn.
