Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is satisfied with Thailand’s latest rankings in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report 2018.
Government spokesman Putthipong Punnakan said today that the prime minister was pleased that Thailand scored higher marks – from 77.39 last year to 78.45 out of a total of 100 – in the Ease of Doing Business rankings although it was ranked 27th from last year’s 26th, but it is still within the top 30th rankings out of a total of 190 countries being rated by the World Bank.
Thailand’s rankings in access to electricity for business and in resolving insolvency as rated by the World Bank have also improved with 98.57 marks for access to electricity and 76.64 for the resolving of insolvency compared to last year’s 75.64, said the spokesman.
He said the government had attached importance to reform of laws and regulations to reduce the gap in Thailand standards compared to international standards with reforms in four areas: ease of starting a business; ease of access to electricity for business; ease of tax; and shortening time for cross-border movements of merchandise.
Putthipong said the prime minister appreciated the World Bank’s assessments of Thailand’s performance in making doing business in Thailand less complicated and much easier for investors.
The prime minister also pledged to fix Thailand’s weak points pointed out by the World Bank.
