Thailand today recorded 28 new COVID-19 cases, including a medic infected in an alternative state quarantine facility and six Thai returnees from Myanmar’s Thachilek Township and in local quarantine.
CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesin Wissanuyothin said today that the number of medics infected in quarantine facilities has now risen to seven.
The other 27 new cases are a Thai man and two women returning from the United Kingdom, two Thai returnees from France, a Thai man and a woman returning from Poland, seven Thai women arriving from Bahrain, a Jordanian arriving from Jordan, six Thai returnees from Thachilek, a Swede arriving from Sweden, an Indonesian arriving from Indonesia and one Thai from each of Azerbaijan, Germany and Ukraine.
Cumulative infections in Thailand, to date, are 4,237.
17 more have recovered today, bringing the total to 3,940, while 237 others are still being treated in hospitals.
Dr. Taweesin explained that the closure of the second day of the Big Mountain Concert Festival, held at a golf course in Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima, was for safety reasons because the concert organizers did not comply with the restrictions imposed by the provincial administration.
He said, however, that concerts can still be held, but they should be organized in line with the “new normal” and observe social distancing with concert goers wearing face masks all the time.
He admitted that it might be difficult to enforce the restrictions if alcohol is allowed at the concerts.
