Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Royal Thai Navy’s (RTN) centre for the protection of national marine resources, said today that six crew members of a Norwegian vessel were found to be infected with COVID-19. Arriving from India, the vessel, BOA DEEP C, docked at Songkhla deep-sea port in the morning of May 11th and left for Sattahip district in Chonburi province at about 5pm.
During the temporary stop at Songkhla port, health officials went on board to conduct swab tests of all crew members and officers, but results were not available until after the vessel left the port.
At about 10pm on the same day, the captain of the vessel received a radio message from Songkhla port officials reporting that six crew members tested positive for the virus. They include two Ukrainians, two Poles, one Indian and a Russian. The ship was immediately ordered back to Songkhla and anchored at sea in the quarantine zone.
All the six infected crew have developed mild symptoms, are separated from the others and have been placed under observation.
The spokesman said the RTN had dispatched a patrol boat to keep close watch on the Norwegian ship, to make sure no crew or cargo is moved off the vessel.
