To date, 14 COVID-19 cases, linked to Thai returnees from Myanmar’s Thachilek township, have been reported, according to Thailand’s Disease Control Department.
The cases, recorded since mid-November, include three in Chiang Mai, one each in Phayao, Phichit, Ratchaburi and Bangkok and seven in Chiang Rai province.
Dr. Sophon Iamsirithavorn, director of the Communicable Diseases Division, told the media today (Friday) that three new cases were recorded today.
One of them is a 51-year woman, from Sing Buri province, who travelled on the same flight as a Thai bar worker, who snuck back to Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai from Thachilek.
The Sing Buri woman fell sick on December 2nd and tested positive for COVID-19 the following day, said Dr. Sophon adding, however, that health officials are trying to determine whether she was infected in Chiang Rai or on the flight.
The other two new cases are Thai women, who are in local quarantine in Chiang Rai after they returned from Thachilek through the formal immigration checkpoint.
The CCSA, meanwhile, reported 14 new COVID-19 cases today. They include 13 arrivals from abroad and one locally transmitted case. The imported cases include one each from Ukraine, Nepal, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Norway, two from Germany, three from the US and three from Myanmar.
Cumulative infections in Thailand, to date, are 4,053 with 3,839 recoveries.
