Woman dies, three injured in machine shop fire in Samut Prakan

A woman burned to death and three others were injured in a fire at a machine shop in Phra Samut Chedi district of Samut Prakan province early Saturday morning.

Police said that four people, including the owner, his wife, a 70-year woman and a municipal official, were resting in a house next to the machine shop.

There was a an explosion in the machine shop, located in Soi Suksawat 84 in Nai Khlong Bang Pla Kot sub-district, and fire quickly spread to the house in which the four were resting.

Katesiri Siriphonghirun, the shop-owner’s wife, lost consciousness due to smoke inhalation and died in the inferno. The other three managed to escape.

Firemen took about 40 minutes to get the fire at the machine shop, which reportedly stored many flammable items, under control. Rescue workers searched through the debris of the house and found one set of charred remains, believed to be those of Katesiri, and two dead dogs.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
