Widespread flooding was reported on Saturday in several of Thailand’s northeastern provinces as Podul, which has now weakened to low pressure cell, loomed over the northeastern province of Loei at 4am and was moving slowly westward.
In its 16th announcement, issued at 4am on Saturday, the Meteorological Department reported that the low pressure cell will continue to bring rain, with isolated heavy showers, to most parts of the country.
The weatherman also warned people living along natural water ways and at the foot of mountains to brace for flash flooding.
Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast in the provinces of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Tak, Sukhothai, Uttradit, Phitsanuloke, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phetchabun, Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, central Kanchanaburi, Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Chainat, Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Bangkok, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Phetchaburi, Ranong, Phang-nga and Phuket.
Meanwhile, netizens reported flooding in their communities in several northeastern provinces.
A Twitter report from the Chaiyaphum public disaster mitigation unit said a bridge in Tambon Him Ngom was damaged by flooding and has become impassable.
In Tambon Na Wiang of Senangkhanikhom district of Amnat Charoen province, the approach path to a bridge caved in due to flooding, making the bridge impassable to all automobiles.
A Facebook post from Dawpasuk Burana reported that several houses in Ban Noi Non Sawang, in Ban Phai district of Khon Kaen, were badly flooded, forcing many residents to move onto the roofs of their flooded houses.
The bypass road from Roi Et to Maha Sarakham has been flooded since yesterday and rendered impassable to all vehicles.
