120 km/hr speed limit now effective with second phase starting August 2nd - Thai PBS World Tonight [2nd April 2021]

April 1st marks as the first day that the 120 km/hr speed limit is effective on the Bang Pa-in Highway to the Ang Thong Interchange, covering 50 kilometers and is set to expand to the 2nd phase to cover the Central, North, Northeast, and South routes, with a distance of approximately 260 km/hr by this August.

The Thai PBS team tested out the 120 km/hr speed limit in the right lane and found that in the interchange entrances and exits there would be yellow rumble strips to alert drivers that they were entering and exiting the speed limit zone. U-turns are now closed off by barriers.

It is also found that cars in front of the team wouldn’t speed up to the 120 km/hr speed limit while cars like trucks and lorries would also use this lane and if there were a large number of cars then drivers could not speed up to the 120 km/hr speed limit as well.

The 2nd phase that is planned to be initiated in August will cover routes in the central, north, northeastern, and southern regions with a distance of approximately 260 km/hr such as Highway 32: Angthong – Sing Buri, Highway 1: Hang Nam Nong Khaem – Nakhon Sawan, Highway 2: Bor Thang – Mo Cha Bok and Highway 4: Khao Wang – Sa

Ready to continue further on the main highways such as Highway 1: Phahon Yothin, Highway 2:  Mittraphap, Highway 42:  Sikhio- Ubonratchathani, Highway 340 Bang Bua Thong – Suphanburi, and Highway 44 Krabi – Khanom, a total of 1,760 kilometers in December 2021.
